Cyclone Biparjoy Update: Cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ has weakened somewhat after hitting Gujarat’s Kutch and Saurashtra. Heavy rain forecast in North Gujarat
The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in North Gujarat. In a press release, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was quoted as saying that due to advance planning and evacuation of more than one lakh people to safe places, no one died.
It said that 1,127 teams are working in Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Rajkot and Porbandar districts to restore power supply. At the same time, the Forest Department has removed 581 trees that have fallen on the roads.

The State Emergency Operation Center said that due to the cyclone, many parts of Kutch as well as Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Morbi districts received very heavy rainfall (100-185 mm) on Friday (June 16). Along with this, strong winds blew at a speed of 95 km per hour. At least 23 people were injured in incidents related to the cyclonic storm, officials said. At the same time, many houses have also been damaged.
When asked about the death of a man and his son while rescuing their goats stuck in a swollen drain in Bhavnagar on Thursday amid heavy rains, he said since the cyclone did not affect the district, the deaths were minor. was not counted in the incidents related to the cyclone.
He said, “Three state highways were closed due to vandalism and falling of trees. According to the report, a total of 581 trees have been uprooted. Chance of extremely heavy rain in Banaskantha-Patan
As the cyclone moves further into the state, officials in the districts of Banaskantha and Patan are evacuating people living in low-lying areas to safer places as the India Meteorological Department has forecast extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in the two districts .
The Meteorological Department said that there will be extremely heavy rainfall in some parts of Kutch district. It has also warned of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Banaskantha till Sunday morning and in Patan till Saturday morning.

Banaskantha District Magistrate Varun Baranwal said that more than 2,500 people have been shifted to safer places and more people are being evacuated from low-lying areas. “We have kept 25,000 food packets ready,” he said.
Earlier, IMD expressed the possibility of heavy rains in the remaining districts of Gujarat on Friday. It warned that the rains could damage houses and roads and uproot trees in districts of north Gujarat.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General Atul Karwal told the media in Delhi on Friday that no one has lost his life after the arrival of cyclonic storm Biparjoy in Gujarat. The Director General of NDRF said that at least one thousand villages of the state are facing power crisis. 40 percent power crisis is in Kutch district alone.
18 teams of NDRF are deployed in Gujarat with tree cutting machines and boats for relief and rescue work. He said that five teams are deployed in Mumbai and four in Karnataka to deal with any situation arising out of the cyclone.
The cyclone is now moving towards south Rajasthan and NDRF has already deployed a team in Jalore in consultation with the state government as there is a danger of flooding and people getting trapped due to heavy rains.
