Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday (June 21). During this, he raised the issue related to the supply of rice for Karnataka’s ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme. After this, Amit Shah asked Union Food Minister Piyush Goyal to discuss this issue. Before meeting Amit Shah, Siddaramaiah said, “After becoming the Chief Minister, I did not meet the President. I have paid a courtesy call on him. I will also meet the Home Minister. This will also be a courtesy meeting, there will be no big discussion, But according to the situation, some issues can be raised. ”Siddaramaiah said in response to a question that during the meeting with the Home Minister, he would raise the issue of rice supply.
Allegations of politics on rice supply
The Chief Minister of Karnataka alleged that the Government of India has done ‘petty politics’ and ‘politics of hate’ in the context of rice supply. According to him, the Karnataka government has contacted many states like Telangana, West Bengal, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and is trying to buy rice. However, he also said that these states would not be able to supply the required 2,28,000 metric tonnes of rice to Karnataka and the cost of transporting the rice would be high.
‘Not enough rice available in Karnataka’
Siddaramaiah told, “It will cost Rs 42 a kg to buy rice from Andhra Pradesh. Telangana has said that only wheat is available there. The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh (Bhupesh Baghel) has told me that he is in a position to provide one lakh metric tonnes of rice for a month. Chief Minister of Punjab (Bhagwant Mann) has said that he will discuss with the officials and then inform.
The Chief Minister said that such a large quantity of rice is not available in Karnataka. He used to say, “We will have to take out the tender in the open market. It will take at least two months to do so.” The Center has recently stopped selling rice and wheat to state governments from the central pool under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS).
FCI issued order
According to an order issued by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), “The sale of wheat and rice under OMSS (Domestic) to the State Governments has been stopped.” However, the sale of rice under OMSS will continue at the existing rate of Rs 3,400 per quintal for northeastern states, hilly states and states facing law and order situation and natural calamities, it added.
