Asaduddin Owaisi on UCC: The discussion about Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is intensifying in the country. After PM Modi advocated UCC, it is being said that the central government is preparing to bring it. On the other hand, those opposing it are saying that this is BJP’s election gimmick for next year’s elections. All India Majlia-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi is prominent among those who say so. They are continuously opposing UCC. Owaisi is telling this against Muslims.
In an interview to Times Now Navbharat, Owaisi said, the 21st Law Commission had said in its report that UCC was not needed and called it a threat to territorial integrity. Owaisi said that Uniform Civil Code will end India’s pluralism.
To target Muslims – Owaisi
On the question against Muslims, he said that BJP spokespersons are openly speaking against Muslims, so why not say that they are being brought to target Muslims. However, he reiterated once again that it will affect not only Muslims but also Hindus.
Owaisi also said that there are already two civil laws in the country. In such a situation, it cannot be said that this cannot happen. He referred to exceptions in the Hindu Marriage Act and the Hindu Undivided Family Act. Also claimed that personal laws exist for Muslims in Singapore and Israel. In the UK, Scotland and England have different criminal laws and Islamic banking is legal in England.
BJP hates the country’s pluralism – Owaisi
Owaisi said that the beauty of India is its pluralism and BJP hates it. He said that it is okay to have not two but three civil laws to maintain the pluralism of this country. The AIMIM leader said that India’s secularism is different from the secularism of Britain, France and America. If you want to make the country like America then it is not right, if you want to make India like France then I will oppose it.
Owaisi’s counterattack on PM’s appeasement statement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Had said in a statement that due to appeasement, different laws are running in the country till date. On the question asked about this, the Hyderabad MP retorted and said that the Chief Minister of Assam (Himanta Biswa Sarma) should get the Nobel, whose communal mindset says that Miyan is responsible if the prices of tomatoes increase.
Regarding UCC, Owaisi said that with its arrival, the system for religious conversion will become ineffective. Citing government statistics, he said that due to Narendra Modi’s policies, 1.80 lakh Muslims were deprived of higher education, of which 50 percent are women.
