Arjun Ram Meghwal on Sedition Law: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has welcomed the Law Commission’s report on sedition law. He tweeted on Friday (June 2) that a final decision would be taken only after deliberations on the recommendations made in the Law Commission’s report on sedition. He said that now that the report has been received by the government, it is time to discuss with all the stakeholders. Will take decision in public interest.
At the same time, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said on the report of the Law Commission that the recommendations of the commission on sedition cases would increase the ruckus in the country. Now how will anyone raise voice and ask questions. He said, “Opposition will be further harassed seeing the elections near. No such security cycle has been given to prevent its misuse.”
The law commission report on sedition is one of the steps in the extensive consultative process.
The recommendations made in the report are persuasive and not binding.
Ultimately, the final decision will be taken only after consulting all the stakeholders.

What is the whole matter?
In fact, the Law Commission had submitted a report on the sedition law to the Center on Thursday (June 1). It has been said in this that this law should be retained with some changes. Its cancellation can affect the integrity and security of the country. Section 124A should be retained with some safeguards to prevent its misuse.
