New Delhi: The incident of attempted abduction of girl students in the country’s prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in the national capital, Delhi, has shaken the JNU administration. After this incident, the JNU administration, taking strict steps, has banned the entry of outside vehicles inside the campus during night time. In the advisory issued by the administration, the entry of external vehicles has been prohibited from 10 pm to 6 am. Students have been asked to identify any guest or family member upon arrival. For this, the student himself will have to come to the main gate or will have to identify the visitor by phone. Only after that someone will be given admission in the campus.
Students should leave the campus only with the identity card
The JNU administration has said in the advisory that the whole incident has been taken seriously. That’s why strict arrangements are being made regarding security. Students should go out of the campus only after taking their identity card with them. While entering the campus, students must show their identity card to the personnel deployed in security. Students cooperate in maintaining security in the campus.
Registrar condemned the incident
On the incident that took place in JNU two days back, the registrar issued a statement saying that the JNU administration strongly condemns last night’s incident. A complaint has been lodged with the police in this matter. The JNU administration is coordinating with the police in the process of investigation. A recommendation has been made to the police to give strict punishment to the youths involved in the crime. The Registrar said that if anyone has any information related to this incident, they should immediately contact the numbers of the Security Branch (011- 26742878, 011-26704742). Also, inform the security personnel if any matter comes to the fore. JNU administration has asked all the students to be alert. JNU administration is committed to provide a safe and secure environment in the campus. No culprit involved in cases like violent incidents and sexual abuse will be spared.
Uproar in student organizations regarding the incident
At the same time, there is a lot of anger in the student organizations regarding this incident. The JNUSU AVP unit took out a march from Sabarmati Dhaba to the main gate to protest against the incident and raised questions about the security and demand for an inclusive campus environment. All the students demanded from the JNU administration to increase the security, especially the security of women, to the highest level. They have demanded strict implementation of security measures along with the resignation of the security chief to prevent recurrence of the incident.
