Universal Social Security Scheme: Now less than a year is left for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Obviously, the ruling party and the opposition will try to woo the voters through their respective announcements. There can also be a universal social security scheme in those announcements, through which efforts will be made to woo the voters. Meanwhile, the country’s Chief Economic Advisor V Ananth Nageswaran has said that Universal Social Security Scheme should not be on the agenda for India at all.
This idea is not good for India!
In the program of Business Chamber CII in Lucknow, the question was asked to the Chief Economic Advisor that, in view of the increasing unemployment in the country, the increasing threat on the employment of Artificial Intelligence, is the right time to provide Universal Social Security in India? In response to this question, the Chief Economic Advisor said that Universal Social Security should not be on India’s agenda for some time to come. He said that a concept like Universal Social Security Scheme would not be right for an emerging economy like India. Rather, efforts should be made to create employment and increase the income of the people through economic development. He said that those people should be supported who are unable to participate in economic activity in the country and emphasis should be on raising the standard of living of such people so that they can participate in economic activity.
Universal Social Security is not needed in India!
V Ananth Nageswaran said that India has not reached that stage, either humanly or economically, there is a need to provide Universal Social Security to the people. He said that the governments of developed countries, which have limited means to increase employment opportunities, have to help their people through the Universal Social Security Scheme. But our country which has the ability to fulfill the aspirations of the people through economic development. Through the Universal Social Security Scheme, we will motivate people to do nothing. He said that I believe that Universal Social Security Scheme should not be on the agenda for India at all.
The issue of Universal Social Security will gain momentum!
Remind you that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Indian National Congress has tried to woo voters through the Nyay scheme, in which 20 percent of the country’s poor families were promised Rs 72,000 annually. However, then the voters did not like it. Recently, when the assembly elections were held in Karnataka, the Congress promised Rs. 3,000 per month to unemployed youth with bachelor’s degree and Rs. 1500 to unemployed youth with diploma. And it is believed that on the basis of this promise, the party has come to power in the state. It is obvious that these election promises will affect the state exchequer. But once before the general elections to be held in 2024, the issue of Universal Social Security Scheme is going to heat up.
