Screws will be tightened on those who impose fake bills, Finance Minister gave these instructions to CBIC


After the implementation of the new indirect tax system i.e. GST, continuous changes have been made in it. Many such cases have come to the fore, in which companies or other bodies have availed Input Tax Credit (ITC) by raising fake bills. Many efforts have been made by the GST authority to rectify this, however, even after this, cases of GST evasion continue to come to the fore. Now preparations are going on for more strictness in this direction. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given clear instructions to the tax authorities in this regard.

Suggest technology based solutions

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a meeting with the officials of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC) on Saturday. In the official statement released after the meeting, it was told that the Finance Minister asked to intensify the campaign against fake billing and input tax credit. He said that CBIC should study such cases which have already come up and find out the root cause on the basis of that. He asked CBIC officials to suggest technology-based solutions after studying in detail to curb this trend.

This facility will be implemented from next week

Finance Minister Sitharaman also emphasized on taking the help of technology in increasing the taxpayer base. He said that efforts should be made to increase the taxpayer base by using technology. He stressed on the need to make an action plan for this. Along with this, the Finance Minister also directed CBIC to introduce automated GST return scrutiny by next week.

This record of GST in the 12th month

During the meeting, the Finance Minister was told that after the last review, the total collection of indirect taxes in 2022-23 has been Rs 13.82 lakh crore. This is a decent increase compared to the year before i.e. FY 2021-22. The total collection of indirect taxes in the financial year 2021-22 was Rs 12.89 lakh crore. Regarding GST, he told the Finance Minister that the average monthly collection during 2022-23 has been Rs 1.51 lakh crore. At the same time, the GST collection has been more than Rs 1.4 lakh crore for 12 consecutive months.

CBIC got all these instructions

In the meeting, the Finance Minister also directed the CBIC to take timely and effective steps in matters relating to employee welfare, cadre restructuring, capacity building and training, timely promotions and discipline. During this, he reviewed the progress of trade facilitation, tax payer services, settlement of trade-related complaints and infrastructure projects.
