The case of the film ‘The Kerala Story’, which has come in discussion even before its release on the big screen, has reached the Supreme Court. Describing the film as spreading hatred against a particular community, there has been a demand to stop its release. The matter was placed before a bench headed by Justice KM Joseph today. But Justice Joseph said that the petitioner should approach the Chief Justice. In such a situation, the petition can be placed before the Chief Justice on Wednesday.
Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, director Sudipto Sen and actress Adah Sharma’s film ‘The Kerala Story’ is going to release on 5th May. The makers of the film are telling that it is based on true events. It talks about 32,000 girls from Kerala who are missing. Who were allegedly converted through love jihad and sent out of India for participating in the activities of the terrorist organization ‘Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)’.
Crores of people have seen the trailer of the film on YouTube so far. The main political parties of Kerala, the CPM and the Congress, are constantly opposing the film, calling it false. Meanwhile, journalist Kurban Ali has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal and advocate Nizam Pasha put this petition before the bench of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagaratna. This bench is hearing pending petitions against hate statements. Sibal demanded that Kurban Ali’s petition be clubbed with the same matter and heard immediately.
Justice KM Joseph said after listening to Sibal and Pasha for a while, "The film has got statutory certificate. If you want to stop the exhibition of the film, then that certificate should be challenged in the High Court." On this, Sibal said that there is very little time left for the release of the film. That’s why a petition was filed in the Supreme Court. To this Justice BV Nagaratna said, "Every matter should not be brought directly to the Supreme Court."
The judges refused to interfere directly in the matter and said that if the petitioners want a hearing in the Supreme Court, then they should put their point in front of the Chief Justice. To this, Sibal said that he would file the petition again today after making necessary amendments and would request the Chief Justice tomorrow for an early hearing.
