Manipur Violence: The situation in violence-hit Manipur is slowly improving. No new incident of violence has come to light in the state in the last two days. Officials said curfew was relaxed for six hours from 5 am on Wednesday (May 10) in 11 affected districts including Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Jiribam. At the same time, on Tuesday (May 9), curfew was relaxed for four hours in these districts.
At least 60 people have been killed in caste violence in Manipur over the demand for Scheduled Tribe status by the majority Meitei community. Around 231 people have been injured and thousands of others have been displaced. According to officials, 2,500 affected people from Churachandpur and 500 stranded in the border town of Moreh were brought to Imphal on Tuesday.
Psychological counseling is being provided
Information and Public Relations Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh said that at least 60 people have been killed. At the same time, more than 30,000 people have been rendered homeless, out of which 26,000 have been shifted to safer places outside their districts. While 4,000 people are in relief camps close to their homes.

Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh had said that 26,000 other people have been shifted to safer places and many of them have taken shelter in the houses of their relatives. A total of 128 companies of Army and Assam Rifles continued the flag march in the affected areas and round-the-clock aerial surveillance is being carried out.
Violent clashes broke out in the northeastern state on May 3 after a ‘tribal solidarity march’ was organized in 10 hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
