Defamation Case Against K Annamalai: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday (May 10) filed a criminal case (defamation) against BJP state unit president K Annamalai in the sessions court for insulting Chief Minister MK Stalin. The case, filed by city public prosecutor D Devarajan in the court of Vacation Sessions Judge C Uma Maheshwari, mentioned two specific allegations made by Annamalai against Stalin.
These allegations were made on behalf of Annamalai
The first case pertains to the allegations made by the BJP leader regarding the investment firm vs DMK personalities and their link to Stalin. Stalin went to Dubai last year to attract investment for Tamil Nadu. The second case pertains to Annamalai’s allegation that a multinational company through two shell companies “paid a bribe of Rs 200 crore to Chief Minister MK Stalin for DMK’s 2011 election funds”. The allegations leveled by Annamalai are discussed in the form of ‘DMK files’.
What did DMK and BJP leaders say?
According to NDTV’s report, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said, “The best step is to punish Annamalai.” What Rahul Gandhi said was nothing but he was disqualified. When they can do that then there is some reason to file a case against Annamalai.” At the same time, the BJP said that Annamalai, who had earlier refused to apologize after DMK’s legal notice, would fight the case in court.
Annamalai had made public a long list of allegations
According to reports, Annamalai had made public a long list of assets worth Rs 1.34 lakh crore on April 14 this year, which he claimed belonged to Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and other ministers such as Durai Murugan, Prominent DM leaders including EV Velu, K Ponmudi, V Senthil Balaji and former Union minister S Jagathrakshakan. Then the DMK termed Annamalai’s allegations as a ‘joke’.
