Why did the Samajwadi Party distance itself from the wrestlers’ protest against Brij Bhushan Singh?

SP Distanced From Wrestlers Protest: Women wrestlers have made serious allegations of sexual harassment against the President of Wrestling Federation of India and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. All the wrestlers have staged a sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan. The players have also got the support of many political parties in this protest, but the Samajwadi Party has so far kept distance from this issue. Let us tell you what is the reason behind this.

The SP is the main opposition party in Uttar Pradesh, from where Brij Bhushan is the BJP MP from Kaiserganj. SP’s ally Rashtriya Lok Dal is one of the parties supporting the wrestlers. At the same time, SP’s hesitation on this issue has created many questions in the political circles of UP as such a controversy is an opportunity for the party to open a big front against the ruling BJP in the state. Both SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and his MP wife Dimple Yadav have opted not to comment on Brij Bhushan, saying “justice must be done” in the matter.

Brij Bhushan has good relations with the Yadav family

SP sources said that party spokespersons have been instructed not to participate in TV debates regarding the Brij Bhushan controversy. However, it can also happen that Brij Bhushan had political relations with SP in the past. He contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections on SP ticket and won. He had joined the BJP in 2014, but SP sources claimed that he has maintained links with the Yadav family. On the condition of anonymity, a senior SP leader claimed that Brij Bhushan Singh has good relations with the Yadav family.

Can Brij Bhushan Singh leave BJP?

He told that Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) played an important role in his appointment as WFI chief. Apart from this, the speculation about Brij Bhushan’s change of party has also increased recently. It is believed that the BJP may deny him a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections next year. In such a situation, speculations are also being made about his joining the SP because he has a strong hold on the Awadh region. He can influence voters in the Lok Sabha seats of Kaiserganj, Gonda, Balrampur and Ayodhya.
