In another tweet, the SP also alleged disturbances during polling in Swar assembly constituency and said that the police in Khempur, Rasulpur, Faridpur, Samodia of Swar assembly are preventing voters from casting their votes. It has been said in the tweet that voters are being forcibly returned from the polling booth and the Election Commission should take cognizance of this.

Election Commission denied the allegations

State’s Chief Electoral Officer Shukla told that six candidates are trying their luck in the by-election of Swar Assembly in Rampur district, while a total of 14 candidates are in the fray for Chhanbe seat in Mirzapur district. A total of 492 polling stations have been set up at both the places. He told that a total of 6.62 lakh voters will be able to exercise their franchise in both the seats. Two general observers, two expenditure observers and two police observers have also been deployed to conduct polling in a free and fair manner. Apart from this, 66 sector magistrates, nine zonal magistrates and 70 micro observers have also been deployed.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by former Chief Minister Mayawati has kept distance from this by-election. At the same time, the Congress has fielded its candidate only on the fifth seat. In the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections held in the year 2022, Abdullah Azam defeated Haider Ali Khan of Apna Dal (Sonelal) here by a margin of more than 61,000 votes. This time SP has nominated Anuradha Chauhan and Apna Dal (Sonelal) Shafiq Ahmed Ansari from this seat.

Voting ends in Swar and Chanbe bypolls

On the other hand, BJP has fielded Rinki Kol, wife of late MLA Rahul Kol, and SP has fielded Kirti Kol in Chanbe seat. In the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly, the ruling BJP has 255 MLAs, and its allies Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Nishad Party have 11 and six MLAs, respectively. SP has 109 MLAs while its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal has nine MLAs. Suheldev has six MLAs from the Bharatiya Samaj Party, two each from the Congress and the Jansatta Dal (Democratic) and one from the Bahujan Samaj Party.
