By the end of the year, 1500 new buses will join the DTC fleet, 12 depots are ready for maintenance


Delhi News: In an initiative to promote the use of electric buses in the public transport system in the capital Delhi, the Delhi government will include 1500 new electric buses in the DTC fleet. These buses will reach Delhi by 15 November. For whom the work of preparing 12 bus depots and charging stations is going on. The aim of the Delhi government behind this is to strengthen the public bus transport system of Delhi. Under this scheme, a target has been set to increase the number of buses to more than 10,000 by 2025.

At present, about 7 thousand buses of Delhi Transport Corporation are plying on the roads. Most of these buses have become old, which are being replaced by new electric buses. A senior DTC official said that charging infrastructure has been prepared for electric buses at Rohini-1, Rohini-2, Mayapuri, Nehru Place, Subhash Place, Wazirpur and BBM Depot. The process of preparing charging infrastructure at Hasanpur, Sukhdev Vihar, Kalkaji, Narayana and Savda Ghevda depots is in the final stage. Parking and maintenance as well as all state-of-the-art facilities for the staff will be provided in all these bus depots.

300 electric buses are currently running on the roads

Currently 300 electric buses are plying on the roads in Delhi. 94 new electric buses are coming in the next 1 to 2 days. At the same time, a target has been set to bring 6,380 more electric buses by December 2025. If this work is done within the stipulated time, then by December 2025, there will be a total of 10,380 buses on the roads of Delhi and out of them 8,180 i.e. about 80 percent of the buses will be electric.

New batch of 350 buses will arrive on July 15

By July 15, 350 new electric buses will arrive in Delhi, after which 250 will reach the capital on August 15, 300 on September 15 and 600 on November 15. In this way, by the month of November, a total of 1500 new buses will hit the roads of the capital.

This depot is ready for buses

Depots have been prepared for these DTC buses at Rohini-1, Rohini-2, Mayapuri, Nehru Place, Subhash Place, Wazirpur, BBM. Where parking and charging facility will be available for 75 to 175 electric buses. Whereas, the work of depots in Hasanpur, Sukhdev Vihar, Kalkaji, Narayan and Savda Ghevda is in the final stage. Where 120 to 200 buses can be parked and charged.
