Pakistan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: A girl student was killed and seven other girl students were injured when a police constable on duty opened fire outside a school in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday (May 16).
The incident took place in the Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after the school holiday for girls, when the girl students were preparing to go home. According to Dawn newspaper, District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur said that the accused, identified as constable Alam Khan, was immediately arrested and an FIR was registered against him.
Strict legal punishment will be given to the guilty- DPO
The district police officer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that a special investigation team has been formed to probe the matter. I assure everyone that the guilty will be given strict legal punishment. Shafiullah Gandapur said that the accused is a resident of Salampur area and has been suspended from the police force twice.
Alam Khan was reinstated in the police department last year and was posted outside the school for security three months ago. He said that the injured have been taken to Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital and emergency has been imposed in the hospital.

A girl who was injured in the attack told the local media that the assailant started firing indiscriminately at her van as soon as she came out of the school gate. He said that all the school children got scared and started shouting, after which people gathered.
After receiving the information about the firing incident, KP Inspector General Akhtar Hayat Gandapur took the responsibility of handling the situation at the spot, while Malakand Regional Police Officer Nasir Mahmood Dasti, DPO Gandapur and Swat Deputy Commissioner Ifranullah Wazir reached the hospital to inquire about the injured children.
A statement issued by the Swat Police said that RPO Malakand has instructed the hospital authorities to ensure the best treatment for the injured girls.
