How did Siddaramaiah prevail over DK Shivakumar? Know why Congress did not choose the troubleshooter as CM

Karnataka Chief Minister: In Karnataka, the Congress won with a thumping majority. After this, the tussle over the name of the Chief Minister continued for four days. After much deliberation, now news is coming from the sources that Siddaramaiah’s name has been sealed. Now the question arises as to why DK Shivkumar was deprived of the post of Chief Minister even after so much hard work. Let us tell you in which cases Siddaramaiah went ahead and will sit on the post of CM one more time.

In fact, the biggest concern for the Congress was that many cases were registered against DK Shivakumar. In such a situation, the central investigative agencies could have sent him to jail anytime and there would have been a fear of destabilization of the government in Karnataka. Shivkumar was waiting for a long time to sit on the CM’s chair. This time he had made it clear in his statements that he wanted to become the Chief Minister only, but due to the ED and CBI cases, making him CM could prove dangerous for the party.

Siddaramaiah’s penetration in the backward classes

Siddaramaiah had an upper hand over DK Shivakumar because of his reach in every section of the state. Siddaramaiah especially has influence in Dalits, Muslims and backward classes (Ahinda). The Congress feared that if he was not made the Chief Minister, a large vote bank could be lost. He has a wide mass base in Dalit, Minority, Tribal, OBC society. He himself also comes from OBC caste.

‘Ahinda’ Formula

Siddaramaiah had been working on the Amangalitaru (minority), Hindulidwaru (backward class) and Dalitaru (depressed class) formula for a long time. Siddaramaiah’s focus under the Ahinda equation was 61 percent of the state’s population. This experiment of his had been in a lot of discussions and Siddaramaiah had joined the Congress regarding this formula. The population of Dalits, tribals and Muslims in Karnataka is 39 percent, while the population of Siddaramaiah’s Kurba caste is also around 7 percent. Since 2009, Congress has made a strong inroads in state politics in Karnataka with the help of this equation. This is the reason why the Congress does not want to weaken it.
