ABP News did a reality check on the claim of BMC on cleaning drains in Mumbai

Mumbai Drain Cleaning: BMC does the process of drain cleaning every year before the monsoon. Regarding this, BMC is claiming that till May 30, with the target of 100 percent drain cleaning, the process of 88 percent drain cleaning has been completed. To know how much truth is there in this claim of BMC, ABP News has inspected it.

The drain in Kamla Nagar of Wadala area of Mumbai is so dirty that it looks more like a dumping ground. This area is surrounded by settlements, but insects and flies were seen in every street. It was the same situation last year as well and this time also there was no cleanliness. People living in the area told that small children keep falling ill. The elderly are also suffering from diseases.

On the other hand, when it rains heavily, all the dirty water reaches people’s homes. When the second big drain located at Wadala Antop Hill was reviewed. There was a big drain here which was completely visible. This drain leads to South Mumbai. However, it is necessary to clean small drains along with big drains.

CM Shinde also took stock

After this, the cleanliness of Mithi river was reviewed. This river is the biggest river of Mumbai. Along with this river, on Thursday (May 18), Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took stock of the cleaning of drains in many areas of Mumbai.

In fact, the BJP is constantly making allegations regarding cleaning of drains. Meanwhile, the question arises whether the Eknath Shinde faction also calls the claims of BMC false? On this, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sheetal Jagtap said, “He is not going on the figures, but Mumbaikars should not face any inconvenience during the rainy season, so our Chief Minister is taking stock of the cleaning of the drains on the road.”

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Visited many areas including Mithi river. He was accompanied by BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and other officials in this tour. The CM said after the tour that action will be taken against the officials for not correcting the process of drain cleaning.

On the other hand, looking at the figures released by BMC, most of the figures seem true, but most of the small drains have not been cleaned yet.
