Second Hand Smartphone: The Department of Telecom (DoT) has launched the Sanchar Sathi portal, which allows you or any individual to block and track your lost or stolen mobile phone across India. Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that apart from tracking and blocking lost mobiles, the portal will also facilitate verification of second hand devices. In such a situation, if you are about to buy a new smartphone, then you are advised to take advantage of this facility started by the government.
This portal will reduce cyber fraud
Sanchar Saathi Portal The first component of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR). If your mobile phone is lost, you can visit the portal to complete the verification process, block the lost device and communicate with law enforcement agencies and telecom service providers.
Sanchar Saathi is also offering a “Know Your Mobile” feature, which allows users to verify the authenticity of a second hand phone before buying it. Vaishnav has assured that this will reduce the increasing trend of cyber frauds.
What is a TAFCO facility?
Sanchar Saathi also includes the Tafco facility, which allows people to verify whether a mobile number is registered in their name without their knowledge or consent. The portal has added features to trace cloned mobile phones across all telecom networks. Recently, the Karnataka Police used the CEIR system to recover 2,500 lost mobile phones and return them to their owners.
