US Allow Tahawwur Rana Extradition: The way has been cleared to bring 26/11 Mumbai attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India. The US court has approved Tahawwur’s extradition to India. Now NIA will bring Tahawwur to India as soon as possible with the help of contact with the US government. Tahawwur Rana is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, who along with Lashkar terrorist David Coleman Headley conspired the 26/11 attacks. Tahawwur was arrested in America on the demand of the Government of India.
India filed a complaint on 10 June 2020 demanding the arrest of 62-year-old Tahawwur Rana. Regarding this, the Joe Biden administration of America had supported and approved sending Rana to India.
48 page court order
US Magistrate Judge Jacqueline Chooljian of the US District Court Central District of California reviewed all the documents. He considered the arguments along with the basis of the documents. After this, on Tuesday (May 16), in a 48-page court order, there was talk of sending Tahawwur Rana to India.
Judge Jacqueline Chooljian wrote in the order that based on the review and consideration of the documents, the US Secretary of State allows the extradition of Rana on the crimes charged. Tahawwur Rana was arrested in the US on an extradition request made by India for his role in these attacks.
NIA probing role in 26/11 attacks
India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing his role in the 26/11 attacks carried out by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in 2008. NIA has said that it is ready to initiate proceedings to bring him to India.
During the court hearing, attorneys for the US government argued that Rana knew that his childhood friend, Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley, was involved in the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET), and that he was involved in assisting Headley and his activities. By giving him cover, he was supporting. This included terrorist organizations and their associates. Rana knew about Headley’s meetings, what was discussed.
