Air Fare Hike: The Indian Aviation Industry has suffered major setbacks in the last few days. Go First has stopped the operation of all its flights since May 3 due to the financial crisis. Because of this, there has been a tremendous increase in the prices of air tickets (Air Fare Hike). In view of the increasing air fares, the government has asked the airlines to maintain a balance while fixing the ticket price. However, with this, the government has made it clear that at present it has no intention of regulating air tickets.
Talking to PTI, a senior official informed that the government has asked the airlines to exercise restraint while determining the flight ticket price and maintain a balance between the cheapest and the costliest tickets.
Tremendous increase in air tickets on many routes
Significantly, GoFirst, which is facing financial crisis, has canceled all its flight operations after May 3 till May 26. After this, the routes on which the airlines were operating the maximum number of flights, there has been a huge increase in the price of air tickets. This includes routes like Delhi-Srinagar and Delhi-Pune. Giving information on this matter, a senior official said that there is a huge difference in the minimum and maximum airfares. In such a situation, the passengers are facing a lot of trouble due to this. In such a situation, the government has advised the airline companies to exercise restraint while fixing the fare.
Government will not regulate air fare
It is worth noting that after the Corona epidemic, now the aviation sector had started gaining momentum. By April 2023, 128.88 lakh passengers traveled by air in India. In such a situation, GoFirst has stopped its services when the peak season is about to come in terms of travel in India. The month of May is going on. In such a situation, a large number of people go out during the summer holidays. The tremendous increase in air fares can further increase the burden on their pocket. However, on this matter, the senior official has made it clear that the government has no plan to further regulate air fares.
Air fare increased by 125 percent
According to the data of travel portal Ixigo, between May 3 and 10, there has been an increase of up to 125 per cent in airfare between Delhi and Leh route and it has reached Rs 13,674. At the same time, there has been an increase of up to 86 percent in the airfares on the Delhi-Srinagar route and a ticket is being sold for Rs 16,898. Earlier, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Raj Scindia had said in Parliament on March 16 that the government will not fix air fares under any circumstances.
