Airport Authority made profit for the first time after Kovid, this one reason helped

During the last financial year 2022-23, the Airport Authority made a profit of Rs 3,400 crore. Quoting sources in the report, it has been told that AAI has got this profit due to increase in domestic air traffic.

AAI has made profits for the first time after the Kovid epidemic. Earlier, AAI had incurred a loss of Rs 803.72 crore in FY 2021-22 and Rs 3,176.12 crore in FY 2020-21. According to a source, AAI has made a net profit of Rs 3,400 crore during the last financial year i.e. in 2022-23. This figure of AAI’s profit is not final and it may change after the audit.

The source also said that the good performance was mainly due to the sharp increase in domestic air traffic. The number of domestic air passengers increased by 47.05 percent on an annual basis in the year 2022 and reached 12.32 crore. According to official data, the number of passengers increased by 51.70 per cent to 3.75 crore in the first three months of this year, as against 2.47 crore in the same period a year ago.

The Airport Authority of India manages 137 airports in the country. These include 24 international and 80 domestic airports. It also provides air traffic management services (ATMS) in the entire Indian airspace and adjoining sea areas. Although the main earning of AAI comes from the management of airports only.

Exemption from dividend payment

Let us tell you that the government had exempted the Airport Authority of India from the condition of mandatory payment of dividend for the financial year ending March 2022. AAI had requested the government to provide exemption from the payment of dividend (AAI Dividend Payment). Seeking exemption, AAI cited the case of Air India, which was exempted from payment of dividend by the government before it was sold to Tata Group in January 2022.
