16 new Congress MLAs take oath in first session of Karnataka Assembly, new speaker will be elected


16th Karnataka Legislative Assembly: The first session of the 16th Karnataka Legislative Assembly began in Bengaluru on Monday (May 22) with the swearing-in of 16 new Congress MLAs, including CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar. The function was conducted by senior Congress MLA RV Deshpande as Protem Speaker. During this, ministers G Parameshwara, KH Muniyappa, MB Patil, KJ George, Satish Jarkiholi, Priyank Kharge also took oath as MLAs today. Earlier, he had taken the oath of office on Saturday (May 20).

Other legislators who took oath include new BJP MLA from Dakshina Kannada region Bhagirathi Murulia, Congress MLA from Channagiri Sivaganga Basavaraj, Congress leaders UT Khadar and Shivangouda Patil. According to assembly officials, all 224 newly elected legislators will take oath as legislators during the three-day session. Also, the election of the new speaker will also happen soon.

‘Have come here with the blessings of the people of Karnataka’

Speaking at the session, Deshpande said, ‘We all have been elected and have come here with the blessings of the people of Karnataka. There are some senior leaders and I see some new faces as well. We have to make efforts for the all-round development of the state. Irrespective of political differences, for the development and progress of the state, we all have to work together to create an ideal Kannada Nadu, a Kannada state, which is prosperous and all sections of people live in peace and harmony’.

Siddaramaiah had said this

After taking oath as the Chief Minister of the state for the second term on Saturday (May 20), Siddaramaiah had said in his first cabinet meeting that we are calling a session of the assembly for three days (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). We are requesting the governor. Because the new assembly has to be formed before May 24.

on 10 may karnataka assembly election Voting was held for which the counting of votes took place on 13 May. The Congress won a thumping majority with 135 seats in the 224-member assembly.
