‘Britain has gone beyond my bank account…’ PM Rishi Sunak gave a befitting reply to critics

UK PM Rishi Sunak: Indian-origin British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has given a befitting reply to critics of personal attacks on his family. Many critics were criticizing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty by name, on which Sunak has now said that these things do not bother me. My country (UK) has moved on from such discussions.

Rishi Sunak is being described as the richest British Prime Minister ever due to the shareholding of his wife Akshata Murthy. He was being targeted because of his family’s tax arrangements. On similar questions, Sunak told reporters – Britain is ‘moving forward’ with people’s money and a new assessment is that their wealth has declined by up to 500 million pounds.

The New Sunday Times’ ‘Rich List’ said Sunak’s family’s wealth had fallen by £200 million in the previous year. Earlier, the estimated wealth of Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy was around 529 million pounds, which reached 730 million pounds in 2022. Akshata Murthy had a stake in Infosys, the main reason for having so much wealth.

‘People don’t care about our wealth’
When reporters asked Rishi Sunak if he was troubled by the personal attacks on his family, he said- ‘People don’t care about our property’. An advertisement from the UK opposition party also said, “Do you think it is fair to increase taxes for working people when your (Rishi Sunak) family has benefited from tax loopholes?” In response, Rishi Sunak said, “I have never really thought about it, or I have not seen it all.

“These things usually don’t bother me”
Sunak said, “These things generally don’t worry me. I don’t think most people sitting at home really bother about these things.” He said, “They care about what I am doing to make their lives better. As I talked about a lot last summer, I think we’ve moved beyond making decisions based on what’s in people’s bank accounts.”

“We judge people by character and actions”
According to reports, Sunak’s wife Akshata Murthy was embroiled in a political storm last year after it emerged that she had potentially saved up to £20 million in UK tax dues by being a non-resident. To this Rishi Sunak said, “I think in our country, we don’t judge people by their bank account, we judge them by their character and their actions. And yes, I am really lucky to be where I am right now.” I am in a position as though I was not born.”
