Delhi News: People in some parts of the national capital Delhi faced scorching heat on Monday, during which the maximum temperature crossed 46 degrees Celsius. Due to the increase in demand for electricity due to the scorching heat in the capital, the pressure on the power grid also increased considerably. Labourers, homeless people and animals working on the outskirts of Delhi also faced challenging conditions.
Officials said that the demand for power in Delhi during the summer season increased to 6,532 MW around 3.30 pm, which is the highest demand so far this season. He said Delhi recorded a peak power demand of 7,695 MW last summer and could reach 8,100 MW this year.
Delhiites can get respite from heat till Wednesday
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar conditions will continue before getting some relief from rain from Wednesday. Delhi’s primary weather station, Safdarjung Observatory, recorded a maximum temperature of 43.7 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal and the highest so far this year. The mercury in Najafgarh reached 46.2 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest place in the capital. At the same time, heatwave conditions prevailed in Narela (45.3°C), Pitampura (45.8°C) and Pusa (45.8°C).
IMD said this about the change in weather
Regarding the change in the weather, the IMD said that due to the western disturbance being active in the western Himalayan region, rain, hailstorm and strong winds are expected in the plains of northwest India from Wednesday. As a result, the maximum temperature will come down to 36 degree Celsius by Thursday. Earlier this month, the Meteorological Department predicted below-normal maximum temperatures and fewer days of heatwave conditions in northwest India in May. The IMD has forecast a slight delay in the onset of southwest monsoon and the maximum temperature is likely to remain above normal for a prolonged period.
