‘Intervertebral disc, depression and…’, AAP leader Satyendar Jain filed a petition in the Supreme Court


Delhi News: Former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain’s health suddenly deteriorated in Tihar Jail on Monday (May 22). After which he was brought to Safdarjung Hospital, where he was checked up. Satyendar Jain has a serious problem of spinal injury. He got this problem due to falling in the prison bathroom. Satyendra Jain has appealed for interim bail citing health reasons.

An MRI done on May 3, 2023 revealed degeneration of all intervertebral discs of Satyendar Jain. Doctors have advised immediate spinal/vertebral surgery and proper post-operative care. For this, Satyendar Jain has been kept at number 416 in the waiting list by the jail authorities and it is expected that he will be able to undergo surgery only after the next 5 months. This can cause serious problems for them. He does not sleep at night and is also in severe depression.

Arvind Kejriwal also prayed

On the hospitalization of former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain, CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that I pray to God for the better health of Satyendar Jain. The people of Delhi and the country are watching this arrogance and oppression of the BJP government very well. Even God will never forgive these oppressors. People and God are with us in this struggle. We are the disciples of Sardar Bhagat Singh. Our fight against oppression, injustice and dictatorship will continue.

Actually, former minister Satyendar Jain has been lodged in Tihar Jail for almost a year. For the last one year, he has eaten only fruits and has not taken a regular diet. Satyendra Jain had earlier appealed to the court that he was following religious traditions and did not eat cooked food without going to the temple. They go to the temple first everyday, then eat cooked food. Due to religious faith, Satyendar Jain has undergone 2 spine related operations in the last one year.

Satyendra Jain has given up cooked food for 358 days
Satyendra Jain has given up cooked food for about 358 days as per his rules and is discharging only on fruits and raw vegetables. He has suffered severe muscular loss due to not taking cooked food. This condition is also called muscular atrophy. Because of this, Satyendar Jain’s weight has decreased by about 35 kg in the last one year. His body has severe muscle atrophy and most of the bones left.

Satyendar Jain fell in the bathroom

At the same time, former minister Satyendar Jain had fallen in the bathroom in Tihar Jail recently, due to which there was a serious injury to his spinal cord. Doctors had told that immediate surgery of his spinal cord is needed. Because of these, Satyendar Jain does not get sleep at night. He gets sleep by using BIPAP machine. Presently he is in severe depression. For these reasons, his lawyer has demanded his bail on medical grounds.

Last week itself, during the hearing on bail on medical grounds in the Supreme Court, Satyendar Jain’s lawyer had said that his weight has reduced by more than 35 kg in jail and his health is not good. GB Pant Hospital has asked for his immediate surgery after he suffered a serious spinal injury. As the days are passing, Satyendar Jain’s health is deteriorating and his condition is becoming serious.

Due to these health reasons, Satyendar Jain has appealed for interim bail.

1- Satyendra Jain has acute lower back pain and associated vertigo. He is suffering from chronic lower back pain due to slipped disc. The pain spreads to his lower limbs and leads to a state of constant tingling, numbness and tingling. He also has neck pain that affects his upper arms and he has difficulty moving his head. He also has great difficulty in walking.

2- Conservative treatment has been done for the last 10 months with medicines. Along with this, physiotherapy has also been done. Two surgeries have also been done under his anesthesia. Yet the problem persists and he continues to suffer from numbness, pain and weakness in his legs. 58-year-old Satyendar Jain finds it difficult to even walk due to recurring pain.

3- Satyendra Jain’s MRI was done on 03 May 2023. Its report shows degeneration in all his intervertebral discs. Hence he needs immediate spinal/vertebral surgery and proper post-operative care. He has been placed as number 416 in the waiting list. If he remains in custody, then his surgery will be done only after the next 5 months. Apart from this, he is also recommended to have a high protein diet and adequate sunlight exposure. As long as he is in jail, it is not possible.

4- Satyendra Jain is suffering from sleep apnea. Which means that their breathing often stops while sleeping. This is a very serious condition which can lead to death. He has to sleep with the help of a BIPAP machine, which continuously pumps air into his lungs.

5- Satyendra Jain had become seriously ill with Covid-19 last year and is suffering from post Covid lung fibrosis. That’s why they are suffering from respiratory problems. This is even more dangerous, as they are already suffering from sleep apnea.

6- The reason behind Satyendar Jain’s incident is very worrying. He has lost 35 kilos in the last one year in jail. He is also suffering from muscular atrophy. That’s why both strength and muscle are decreasing in his body.

7- Satyendar Jain is in severe depression. He was diagnosed with depression in jail, after which he was given medication and therapy. He has already gone through 3 therapy sessions.
