TMC Leader Files RTI For BBC Documentary: Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Saket Gokhale has filed an RTI application with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. In this, copies of those files have been sought which the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Related to the ban on the BBC documentary made on. Gokhale asked why he felt insecure about people watching the BBC documentary when the Modi government was promoting Sudipto Sen’s controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’.
Gokhale tweeted that the BJP and the Modi government started creating ruckus after the West Bengal government banned the hate-spreading film Kerala Story on the basis of law and order. At the same time, by implementing his powers in January, he banned the BBC documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’. PM Modi himself promotes the Kerala Story but is insecure about people watching the BBC documentary. He has termed it as the politics of double standards.
‘People should be allowed to watch BBC documentary’
Gokhale further said that if the BJP really claims to stand for ‘freedom of expression’ then people should be allowed to watch the BBC documentary as well. Why the hypocrisy? So I have filed an RTI for a copy of all the files related to the decision to ban the BBC documentary. He has demanded all the files, file notings and memos related to the ban from the ministry.
Politics over ‘The Kerala Story’ in West Bengal
Actually, the film ‘The Kerala Story’ is getting a lot of politics in West Bengal. Earlier the film was banned by CM Mamata Banerjee. Later the Supreme Court lifted the ban on the film but the movie is missing from the halls. The BJP has alleged that the hall owners are being threatened here not to screen the film.
