The latest unit of 5G network started on 24 May in Gangotri, Uttarakhand. With this, 5G network reached Gangotri. With this, the number of 5G network sites in India has increased to two lakh. The 5G site located in Gangotri was inaugurated by Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami.

700 districts covered within 8 months
Within just 8 months of its launch, 5G network has reached all 28 states and 8 union territories of the country. During this period, two lakh sites of 5G network were created, due to which 700 districts of the country are being covered. If we compare the time taken for 5G network to reach every area in a country, the way 5G network has reached the entire country within 8 months in India, it is one of the fastest launch of 5G in the whole world. In the first five months of the launch of 5G service on October 1, 20022, 5G equipment was installed at one lakh places and within three months, one lakh more 5G network sites were installed.

Giving information about 6G services, Communications and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that India is moving ahead with a vision to lead the development of 6G technology and according to the vision of Prime Minister Modi, India has more than 100 companies in 6G technology. There are more patents. It reflects the excellence of the talented engineers and innovators of the country. Ashwini Vaishnav also told that developed countries like America are showing great interest in India’s 4G/5G technology stack.
Now 5G mobile coverage is ensured in Chardham
With the launch in Gangotri, 5G mobile coverage was ensured in Char Dham Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri of Uttarakhand. Most of the towers of the Chardham Yatra route have also been connected to it. There is fiber connectivity in these Char Dhams. Pilgrims traveling to Chardham through high internet bandwidth will now be able to get 5G service without any hindrance. Due to this convenience, the quality of ‘Voice and Video calls’ in and around the temple premises as well as on the yatra route will be much better than now, despite having more pilgrims. Apart from this, mobile services have also been made available on the entire trekking path i.e. 6 km from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib.
Helping pilgrims stay connected with family
Every year people reach from every corner of the country to visit Chardham. Earlier, due to lack of good mobile network, pilgrims used to have difficulty in staying connected with their families during this period. Now the 5G network will help the pilgrims of Char Dham to stay connected with their family members. Along with this, the local people will also get the facility to increase their business during the Chardham Yatra. Along with this, 5G high-speed network will also bring more efficiency in disaster management and monitoring on the mountains.
bsnl 5g service by the end of the year
Rapid expansion of 5G network is also very important in terms of providing better connectivity in remote and rural areas of the country. Apart from this, the government public sector telecom company BSNL is also working to provide its own 4G network in every part of the country. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has informed that BSNL has installed 4G telecom equipment made in the country at 200 places between Chandigarh and Dehradun. And in the next two weeks, BSNL’s 4G services will start in these areas.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has also informed that BSNL’s 4G network will be upgraded to 5G by November-December this year. BSNL has placed advance orders worth more than Rs 19,000 crore to TCS and ITI for setting up 4G network. These devices will be installed at more than 1.23 lakh places across the country. Ashwini Vaishnav expressed confidence that after running the trial for three months, BSNL will start setting up network at 200 places in a day. Initially this network will work as 4G. After that it will be converted to 5G with software update by November-December.
5G service to start on October 1, 2022
In August last year, the 5G spectrum auction was completed. At that time, the central government had kept 72,098 MHz spectrum for auction. Of these, 51,236 MHz was sold with a bid of Rs 1,50,173 crore. This was 71 percent of the total spectrum. Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea Limited and Adani Data Networks acquired 5G spectrum through this auction. Maximum spectrum was acquired by Reliance Jio followed by Bharti Airtel. After this, on October 1, 2022, 5G service was started in 13 cities of the country including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata.
Many challenges regarding 5G service
It is sure that we are one of the fastest launching countries in the world in terms of reaching 5G network across the country, but there are still many challenges regarding 5G service. The biggest challenge is that fiber connectivity will have to be increased rapidly. Till September last year, only 30 percent of the country’s telecom towers were connected with fiber connectivity. To fully extend the service of 5G network to the far-flung areas of the country, this figure will have to be taken between 60 to 70 percent. The National Broadband Mission has expressed confidence that by 2024, around 2 million kilometers of optical fiber will be installed across the country, covering 70% of the towers.
To ensure access to 5G services, it is also necessary for most people in the country to have 5G-enabled mobile handsets. India needs to encourage and promote its local 5G hardware manufacturing at an unprecedented rate. Companies will also have to take steps regarding the prices of plans related to 5G. It is expected that there will be more than 30 million 5G subscriptions in India by 2026 and the speed with which India is moving in this direction. Achieving this goal will not be very difficult.
