Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir said on Thursday (May 25) that his country would neither forgive nor forget those who attacked martyrs’ memorials. He indirectly addressed former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan messaged as violent protests broke out on May 9 following the arrest of Khan from the Islamabad High Court complex by paramilitary Rangers.
Activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party were alleged to have vandalized dozens of military installations during Imran’s arrest, including the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence, the Mianwali airbase and the ISI building in Faisalabad. The mob also stormed the army headquarters in Rawalpindi for the first time.

Addressing a program at the Police Lines in Islamabad on the occasion of Yom-e-Takreem Shuhda (Martyrs’ Honor Day) celebrated on Thursday, the Pakistan Army Chief said, “The country will neither forgive nor forget those people.” Those who insulted the memorials of the martyrs and hurt their dignity. He said that such behavior will not be tolerated. General Munir said, “I want to convey this message to the heirs of the martyrs of law enforcement agencies that the people of Pakistan and the Pak Army are standing with them and will continue to stand.”

Earlier, a ceremony was also held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, which was attended by General Munir and his predecessor, retired General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Similar programs were also organized at various Corps Headquarters across Pakistan.
On this occasion, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif said that the tragic incidents of May 9 were shocking. He said that those who wanted to harm the country would be identified and exposed.
