Violence is not stopping in Manipur! Another death in the clash, the mob ransacked the minister’s house as well

Violence In Manipur: Manipur, the northeastern state of the country, is burning with the fire of violence these days. Despite all the efforts of the Army, Assam Rifles and state defense units, the violence in the state is not stopping. Recently, a mob of unknown people attacked the minister’s house and ransacked it. In another similar case, a person was killed in a clash with the security forces of the crowd.

According to information received from the media, on Wednesday (May 24) evening, a mob attacked the residence of state minister Govinddas Konthoujam in Ningthoukhong town of Bishnupur district and vandalized the rest of the property along with the furniture kept in his house. According to media reports, violence took place in two separate incidents on Wednesday in Bishnupur and Imphal West districts.

Why did the mob attack the minister’s house?
The mob attacked the minister’s house because they alleged that the government in the violence-hit state was not doing enough to protect the local people from extremists from other communities. According to officials, the minister and his family members were not present when the mob attacked the house in Ningthokhong area. Most of the attacking mob were women. He said that a gate, windows, some furniture and some electronic items of the house were damaged in the attack. This is the first time that a minister’s house has been attacked during the ongoing caste violence between the people of the Meitei and Kuki communities in the state.

Over 70 people have died in the violence that started three weeks ago in the state and the army and paramilitary forces have been deployed to control the situation. Meanwhile, Eastern Army Command Commander Lt Gen RP Kalita visited Manipur to take stock of the security situation in the state. Kalita discussed with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and senior government officials the current situation and measures to enhance coordination among all agencies to restore normalcy at the earliest.
