The new parliament will have more sitting space for MPs than the old one. Arrangements have been made to seat 888 members simultaneously in the Lok Sabha Chamber of the new Parliament House. At the same time, 384 members will be able to sit in the chamber of Rajya Sabha. In the old building, the joint session was held in the Central Hall, but in the new building it will be held in the Lok Sabha Chamber. In this, if needed, more than 1200 MPs will be able to sit together.
There will also be a constitution building in the triangular-shaped four-storey parliament house, in which the original constitution and the constitution in digital form will be kept. Anyone can read it page to page. This four-storey new building will have the offices and committee rooms of Union Ministers. Apart from this, the Central Lodge has also been built in the new building.
What’s special?
The built-up area of the triangular-shaped four-storey Parliament House is 64,500 square meters. The building has three main gates – Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar and Karma Dwar. The material used in the construction of the Parliament House has been brought from different parts of the country. The teak wood used in it has been brought from Nagpur in Maharashtra, while the red and white sandstone has been brought from Sarmathura in Rajasthan.
Sandstone for the Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb was also brought from Saramathura. Green stone has been brought from Udaipur, red granite from Lakha near Ajmer and white marble from Ambaji Rajasthan.
Where did the stuff come from?
The steel structure for the ‘false ceiling’ in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers has been sourced from the Union Territory of Daman and Diu, while the furniture for the new building was fabricated in Mumbai. The material for the Ashoka Icon was brought from Aurangabad in Maharashtra and Jaipur in Rajasthan, while the material for the exteriors of the Parliament House was sourced from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
What is the government saying?
The central government says that a new parliament is the need of the hour. Sarkar said that digital audio and video system has also been installed in front of every seat. The speaker will have control over who will speak and who will not.
