Savarkar’s name included in Delhi University’s syllabus, will be taught before Mahatma Gandhi


Savarkar In DU Syllabus: Changes have been made in the syllabus of Delhi University. In the new syllabus, VD Savarkar of Hindutva ideology will now be taught in the fifth semester. This change was done by the Academic Council on Friday (May 26). After adding his name to the syllabus, now Mahatma Gandhi will be taught in the 7th semester.

“Earlier Savarkar was not part of the syllabus, while Gandhiji was taught in the fifth semester,” said Alok Ranjan, member of the Academic Council of Delhi University. At the same time, a section of teachers has opposed this move. These teachers are not against the inclusion of VD Savarkar, but are upset with the Mahatma Gandhi chapter being pushed to the fourth year.

Savarkar’s name in syllabus for the first time

Now if a student exits BA Political Science Honors syllabus after 3 years instead of 4, then he/she will not get to know about the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in India’s freedom struggle. Never before has a full paper on Savarkar been taught. According to a DU statement, this is the first time that Savarkar has been included in the syllabus.

Allama Iqbal removed from syllabus

Apart from this, poet Muhammad Iqbal, also known as Allama Iqbal, has also been removed from the revised syllabus. DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, chairing the meeting, said, “Those who laid the foundation to break India have no place to be part of the syllabus.”

Who was the poet Iqbal?

The famous Urdu and Persian poet Iqbal wrote the famous song ‘Saare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara’. Iqbal is known as those who have the intention of making Pakistan. Iqbal was taught in Modern Indian Political Thought in BA Political Science, from which his name has now been removed.
