Manipur Violence: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday (May 30) held a meeting with women leaders, senior army officers, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and stakeholders regarding the Manipur violence. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the central government and said that attention is not being paid.
Amit Shah said after the meeting that the topmost priority of the government is peace and prosperity in Manipur. He has instructed the security officials to deal strictly with any activity that disturbs the peace. Shah said this after reviewing the security situation in Imphal with senior officers of Police, CAPF, Army. At the same time, CM Mamta Banerjee wrote a letter to the Center and said that the people of the country want to know the exact situation here. On the other hand, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge met President Draupardi Murm and requested to set up a high-level inquiry commission headed by a sitting or retired Supreme Court judge in the case.
What did Mamta Banerjee say?
According to news agency PTI, TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that she has written to the Center seeking permission to visit violence-hit Manipur. Questioning the delay of central leaders in reaching Manipur, Banerjee also said that I want to show solidarity with the people here. Banerjee told that she had sent the letter to the Center on Monday (May 29). Banerjee had last week accused the BJP of trying to create a Manipur-like conflict in West Bengal. All people from outside the state need an ‘Inner Line Permit’ to visit Manipur, work or do business. However, this permit is issued not by the Centre, but by the state government.
Congress made these demands to President Draupadi Murmu

The delegation has submitted a memorandum to President Murmu, in which 12 demands have been made, including setting up a commission of inquiry and taking appropriate steps to ensure peace. “We have submitted a memorandum to the President seeking his intervention so that the extraordinary situation faced by Manipur can be resolved and normalcy restored immediately,” Kharge tweeted. In a memorandum submitted to the President, the Congress urged that the central government should take all necessary steps to curb extremist organizations. A special campaign should be launched to trace the missing people. The party delegation also said that proper steps should be taken to rehabilitate the displaced people. Over 75 people were killed in violence that broke out in Manipur after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Meitei community.
