Target Killing In Kashmir: After a few months of silence due to the heavy pressure of the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, the terrorists have once again started targeting the innocent citizens of the minority community. This time the terrorists shot dead Deepak Kumar, a private circus worker.
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Deepak Kumar alias Deepu was murdered late Monday evening in Anantnag district when he was returning from his camp near the circus around 8.15 pm. During this, unknown gunmen fired him with bullets.
An atmosphere of fear among the employees – Deepak’s companion
After the murder of Udhampur resident Deepak Kumar, the rest of the laborers and employees working in the circus are scared and they are also facing the threat of their lives. Nazir Ahmed, who worked with Deepak, said, ‘Deepu was working with me for the last eight years and everyone is very saddened by his death. The rest of the employees of our circus are now afraid to even come out.
Deepu’s family lives in a remote village of Thiyal in Udhampur district of Jammu. In the family, Deepu’s father Mashu Ram who is deaf, his elder brother Raju who is blind and his sister-in-law. Deepu’s family, originally from Basoli area of Jammu, has been living in Udhampur for the last 15 years and Deepu has been working as a foreman in a circus for the last 9 years. Deepu was the only earning person in the family and the family used to talk to him everyday. When the relatives spoke to Deepu on Monday evening, the father asked him to send some money so that he could get his treatment done.
The whole country stands with the family of the deceased – Lieutenant Governor
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condemned the terrorist attack and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. He said, the government and the entire country are standing shoulder to shoulder with the family. Our security forces are steadfast in their resolve to foil the designs of terrorists and all efforts will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice. At the same time, since the incident, there is anger against Pakistan among the people of native area Deepu and they are demanding from the government that such targeted killings should be stopped as soon as possible.
In fact, this is the first attack on members of the minority community after more than three months. The last attack took place on 26 February 2023 when Sanjay Kumar was killed in Achan village of Pulwama district. This latest attack has once again created an atmosphere of tension in South Kashmir. South Kashmir is the main route of the Amarnath Yatra starting from July 1, due to which the security forces have increased the security.
