China Sinicization of Religion: In China, the second largest country in terms of population in the world, so many restrictions have been imposed on Muslims that not only are they being deprived of their customs, but it has also become difficult for them to offer Namaz there. . The population of China is more than 140 crores, but the number of Hindu, Muslim or Jain followers there is very less. Most of the people there are atheists, and then there are followers of Buddhism on the second number.
Many western countries, including America, have raised their voice against the human rights violations in China and the atrocities on Uygar Muslims, but no Islamic country opposes China. The Communist Party of China (CPC) led by President Xi Jinping is in power in China, and it is engaged in Sinicization of Islam.
Islamic traditions succumbed to Xi’s sinicization
Sinicization means- people live in Chinese style. Muslims living in China are especially in the purview of Sinicization, that is why domes and minarets are being removed from mosques there. In some cities, mosques have been completely destroyed. In the last few years, the structures of 16,000 mosques were either changed, or many of them were demolished. The Jinping government believes that everything in the country should have a Chinese-style, that is, a Chinese stamp. In English this is called sinicization.
Rule- People of every religion should be only Chinese
Sinicization started in China from the time Xi Jinping came to power. In the year 2018, Xi Jinping gave a speech as President, in which he said – We want people of every religion living in the country to feel connected to China, for this they have to adopt Chinese symbols and methods. After this, Sinicization of Islam also started. Until a decade ago, there were not so many reports of atrocities on Uighurs in China, but there have been a lot of atrocities on them in the Jinping government.
No burqa, no hijab, Chinese style clothes will have to be worn
The ‘Sinisation’ of China has been well mentioned in the media of western countries. Under ‘Sinisation’, Muslims in China are being asked to get their mosques or madrassas built in Chinese style. They will have to live in the country as Chinese, not like the Muslims of Arab countries. The same language has to be spoken. Even the clothes have to be worn in such a way that they do not seem to be from outside China. There should be no symbol of Islam on them.
Most atrocities happening in Xinjiang province
According to reports, most of the atrocities on Muslims take place in Xinjiang province of China. Xinjiang is the province where the number of Muslims is more than other provinces. There are two major sects of Muslims in China – one Uygar Muslim and the other Hui Muslim. These are the third and fourth number ethnic minorities of China. Apart from these, there are some other sects of Muslims as well, but the population of all types of Muslims is not even 3 crores.
Muslims only 2.6 crore in 142 crore population
According to a report by news media Radio Free Asia, the total population of Muslims in China is 26 million. If, it is estimated from the total population of China of 142 crores, then this number remains very less. Despite this, the Chinese government has launched a five-year program to sinicize Islam. That is, those who believe in this religion leave their religious identity, such as keeping long beards, wearing different clothes, or going to mosques again and again. In Xinjiang province alone, more than one million Muslims have been kept in detention camps.
There were 38 thousand mosques in 2014, the number decreased rapidly
Now the mosques that are seen in China are not like the ones in India-Pakistan, but the mosques of China are being built in the structure like the ancient times of China. According to data from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), there were about 38,000 mosques in China in the year 2014. After a few years, there was a significant decline in their numbers. It is said that 16 thousand mosques were damaged there. And, about 8 and a half thousand mosques were completely demolished.
No Islamic country bothers, Pak has also given clean chit
The surprising thing is that no Islamic country is seen standing against China on the atrocities on Muslims in China. Even Pakistan, which has strict Islamic law and order, takes the opposite side of China. Despite the atrocities on millions of Uyghur Muslims, the Prime Minister of Pakistan gave a clean chit to China in this matter. In an interview given to the Chinese media CGTN in 2021, the Prime Minister of Pakistan had said- ‘The media of western countries is trying to create an atmosphere of hatred against China. There are no atrocities on Muslims here. We will continue to support China.
