Population crisis deepens in Japan, record decline in birth rate for seventh year


Japan: Japan’s birth rate has recorded a record decline for the seventh consecutive year, in such a situation, the falling population rate remains a cause of concern for the government. The decline in the birth rate was confirmed by Japan’s Ministry of Health on Friday.

The increasing number of elderly people in Japan and the decline in the birth rate are worrying for Japan. According to annual population data, the average number of children a woman will give birth to in her lifetime is set to drop from 1.30 in 2021 to 1.26 in 2022, a record low since 2005. The fertility rate is well below the rate of 2.06-2.07, which is considered necessary to maintain population balance.

‘Japan’s population has been declining for 16 years’

Not only this, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health for the year 2022, a total of 7,99,728 babies were born in Japan. While the death rate during this period was more than 15 lakh 80 thousand, which is a shocking figure. Significantly, the population of Japan, which has a population of more than 125 million, has been decreasing for 16 years, in such a situation, it is estimated that by the year 2070, the population of the country will be 87 million.

This is because Japan wants to strengthen its military to counter China’s rapidly growing territorial ambitions. In such a situation, if the coming generations are affected, then it will not be easy for Japan to compete.

Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a special meeting on Thursday, taking seriously the falling population. During this, he said that before the possibility of a huge decline in the youth population in the year 2030, there is one last chance for us to improve the declining birth rate.
