Coromandel Train Accident: In one of the most gruesome accidents in rail history, 261 people have lost their lives so far in the Odisha train accident. Three trains – Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train were involved in the accident. The incident took place when the passenger train Coromandel Shalimar Express derailed and collided with the goods train and some of its coaches also collided with the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express.

According to the railway, more than 600 have been injured in the accident. There is also a possibility of increasing the number of dead. This horrific accident took place in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday (June 2) around 7 pm when many passengers were sleeping. The Chennai-bound Coromandel Shalimar Express derailed and collided with a goods train. After this many coaches of this train overturned.

Terrible accident happened in few minutes

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast collided with the derailed coaches. Both the trains were running at high speed at the time of collision. The Coromandel Express was fast approaching the upline. While Yeshwantpur Express was coming downline. Whereas the goods train was in the common loop. According to officials and eyewitnesses, the accident took place within a few minutes between 6:50 pm and 7:10 pm. Railway has ordered an inquiry into the accident.

No passenger in reserved compartment was injured.

Railway officials said that no passenger of the reserved compartment of the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express was injured in the accident. While some passengers sitting in the general compartment were injured. The teams of NDRF and SDRF had reached the spot shortly after getting information about the accident. The injured passengers were admitted to nearby hospitals. Army troops were deployed for the relief and rescue work of the injured passengers and Air Force aircraft were also used for the relief work.
