Bastar News: The unseasonal rains in Bastar of Chhattisgarh in the past days have put the farmers cultivating maize in financial crisis. In the past, along with Bastar, the rain caused heavy destruction in Kondagaon, Dantewada, Bijapur and Sukma districts. Because of this, along with vegetables, maize crop has also suffered huge damage in these districts.
In many areas, the maize crop has been completely destroyed. In fact, the farmers were expecting that they would get a good profit due to the sale of maize at the fixed support price, but due to unseasonal rains, the price of maize has come down drastically. Alam is that the price of maize has reached Rs 1500 to 1400 per quintal from the support price of Rs 2100 per quintal. Not only this, even after the fall in the price, farmers have to find buyers for their maize crop.
Maize has to be sold at one and a quarter price
Not only this, farmers are facing financial crisis this year due to traders buying maize at throwaway prices. Amidst all this, the farmers are wishing that whatever cost they have put in the cultivation of maize, they should get at least that amount. In fact, this year the farmers of Bastar cultivated maize on a large scale in the Rabi season after Kharif. He was hopeful that this time there would be a good profit from the maize crop, but now the situation is that farmers have to sell maize at throwaway prices.
Maize is being sold for 1400 to 1500 rupees
Traders are also taking advantage of this opportunity. They are also not missing out on arbitrariness on this occasion. Till about 20 days ago, the maize crop which was sold for Rs. 2100 per quintal is being sold for Rs. 1400 to 1500 these days. This is causing economic loss to the farmers. Due to getting more profit in less cost, the trend of farmers is increasing towards maize cultivation, but now they are feeling disappointed because of not getting the price. Compared to last year, this year a large number of farmers had cultivated maize in the rabi season. These days farmers are harvesting maize and selling it in the market.
Bad weather affected the crop
Traders who buy maize are talking about a decline in its price due to bad weather. Traders say that 20 days ago, maize was being purchased at the rate of 2100 per quintal, but due to bad weather, its crop has been greatly affected. Because of this, its prices have fallen.
On the other hand, the farmers who cultivated maize this year say that now they have to find buyers to sell their maize. Because of this, traders are also doing arbitrariness. Not only this, even after selling maize at throwaway prices, farmers have to wait for two to three weeks for payment.
