Coromandel Express Derail : A major train accident took place in Balasore, Odisha on Friday (June 2) evening. This accident happened when three trains, goods train, Coromandel Express and Howrah Express collided. So far 233 people have been reported dead in the accident. More than 900 people are injured. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out at a rapid pace to help the victims. It is being said that this train accident is the biggest train accident in the world after the year 2004.
The world’s biggest train accident happened in Sri Lanka. Here on December 26, 2004, about 1700 people aboard the ‘Ocean Queen Express’ died. Tsunami due to the accident, due to which the entire train of Puri got merged in the strong waves of Tsunami. Due to this accident, many people had become homeless and many orphans.

How did this accident happen?
The Balasore train accident took place on June 2 at around 7.20 pm. According to the information received from the railway official, several coaches of the 12864 Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express going from Bengaluru to Howrah suddenly derailed in Bahanaga market and fell on another track. The coaches of the train collided with Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express 12841 which was coming on the other track. After which several coaches near the Coromandel Express derailed and collided with the goods train coming from the other side. According to the information, the accident happened at Bahanga Bazar station, about 255 km from Howrah.
After the accident in Balasore, Odisha, the Railways has announced an assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh to the seriously injured. The Prime Minister’s Relief Fund has also been asked to provide an assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased.
