Pakistan Economy Crisis: The difficulties of Pakistan, which is facing economic crisis, are not taking the name of being reduced. The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP) have jointly predicted severe food insecurity in Pakistan. Along with this, it has been claimed that the situation is going to worsen in the coming days.
According to the report, if the economic and political situation of Pakistan remains the same then there is a possibility of acute food insecurity in Pakistan in the next few months. In a Khama Press report, independent journalist Noman Hussain said that in a report published jointly by FAO and WFP from June to November, warnings have been issued on Pakistan and Afghanistan.
According to a Dawn report, political instability in Pakistan, economic crisis and failure to get an economic package deal from the International Monetary Fund have further increased the food crisis in Pakistan as food imports could not be done due to these reasons.
The situation may worsen in these countries
The WFP has said in its report that Pakistan, the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Syrian Arab Republic are hotspots of great concern. Along with this, a warning has been given including Myanmar in this list. The report further states that a large number of people in all these hotspots are facing severe food insecurity, as well as people living in these countries may be dependent on food grains in the coming days.
Political upheaval also responsible
Apart from the political turmoil, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) financial bailout of Pakistan has been delayed for the past seven months. According to the Khama Press report, Pakistan has to pay $77.5 billion in the next three years, which is not going to be easy at all.
Afghanistan may be affected
It has also been warned in the report that if the situation in Pakistan worsens, then its effect will be clearly visible on Afghanistan as well. Afghanistan’s coal and grain export earnings may suffer due to Pakistan’s worsening situation.
