Gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva Profile: 48-year-old gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva, serving a life sentence, was shot dead on Wednesday (June 7) in the court premises in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. UP’s Special DG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said, “Today (June 7) at around 3:55 pm, gangster Sanjeev alias Jeeva was being taken to the Lucknow Civil Court for production. As soon as he reached the court, a man disguised as a lawyer opened fire on him.

The police officer said, “Jiva, two police constables and a one-and-a-half-year-old girl were injured in Wardach. Jeeva died during treatment. The condition of the police constable and the girl is stable and they are undergoing treatment. The person who opened fire was arrested on the spot.

Sanjeev Jeeva’s name came in the murder of two BJP leaders

According to the police, Jeeva was serving his sentence in Lucknow jail. He was an accused in several criminal cases. His name figured in the murder of two BJP leaders Brahma Dutt Dwivedi and Krishna Nand Rai. He was acquitted in the 2005 Krishnanand Rai murder case, while he was convicted in the 1997 Brahma Dutt Dwivedi murder case. It is said that it was Brahma Dutt Dwivedi who protected BSP supremo Mayawati in the 1995 guest house incident.

Who was Sanjeev Maheshwari aka Jeeva?

Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva was originally from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name is Om Prakash Maheshwari and mother’s name is Kunti Maheshwari. Jeeva is survived by his wife Payal Maheshwari, three sons and a daughter. Jeeva’s wife Payal Maheshwari contested the 2017 UP assembly elections from Muzaffarnagar on an RLD ticket, in which she was defeated.

Criminal cases on Sanjeev Jeeva

According to the police, 24 cases were registered against Sanjeev Jeeva. He was acquitted in 17 cases. Jeeva’s name figured in cases of murder, kidnapping, extortion and dacoity in areas like Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Haridwar and Farrukhabad.

Jeeva was associated with gangster Munna Bajrangi. Munna Bajrangi’s gang was accused of working for Mukhtar Ansari. For this reason Jeeva had joined the people close to Mukhtar. It is said that he was involved in the most special shooters. According to reports, more than 35 people were involved in Sanjeev Jeeva’s gang.

How did you get started in the crime world?

According to reports, in the 90s, Jeeva worked as a compounder at a shop called ‘Shankar Dawakhana’ in Muzaffarnagar, UP. This dispensary used to claim to get rid of alcohol. People visiting the dispensary used to call the compounder Jeeva as Doctor.

In those days, the owner of the dispensary was worried about not getting the money back from any man. The master offered a reward to Jeeva if he brought money from him. Jeeva brought back the money and the owner rewarded him. Later, when the owner of the dispensary was kidnapped, Jeeva was blamed for it.

It is said that due to the abduction of the owner, the blood of the world of crime was mixed in the mouth of Jeeva. In the 90s itself, Jeeva’s name came up in the kidnapping of the son of a Kolkata businessman. It is said that Jeeva had asked for a ransom of two crore rupees to release the businessman’s son. After that scandal, Jeeva had joined the big criminals.

brahma dutt dwivedi murder case

On May 10, 1997, the then BJP MLA from Farrukhabad, Brahmadutt Dwivedi, was murdered. Jeeva’s name also figured in the murder. That day, Dwivedi had reached the City Kotwali area to attend a Tilak ceremony. Later, he was killed by firing bullets at his car. Dwivedi’s bodyguard BK Tiwari was also killed in the incident and the driver Rinku was injured. Dwivedi was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The police had registered a case against Vijay Singh, a domineering leader of Farrukhabad, and three unknown people. Vijay Singh was arrested from Delhi. During interrogation, it was revealed about the three unknown assailants, in which the names of Balwinder Singh, Ramesh Thakur and Sanjeev Jeeva came to the fore. Ramesh Thakur was killed in the encounter. After the CBI investigation, Sanjeev Jeeva was found guilty in the murder case. Since then he was serving life sentence.

Krishnanand Rai murder case

In 2005, BJP leader Krishnanand Rai was the MLA from Mohammadabad assembly seat in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. On November 29, 2005, Rai, who was returning after inaugurating a cricket tournament in a village, was shot dead. Seven people including Rai were killed. Bullets were fired at them. It is said that around 500 rounds of bullets were fired and AK-47 was used in the incident.

According to the statement given in the court by Krishnanand Rai’s brother Ramnarayan Rai, after inaugurating the tournament, Krishnanand Rai was going towards Kanuwan village at around 4 pm. During that time gunner Nirbhay Upadhyay, driver Munna Rai, Ramesh Rai, Shyam Shankar Rai, Akhilesh Rai, Sheshnath Singh and Ramnarayan Rai himself were also going with Krishnanand Rai. One and a half kilometer ahead of Basniyan Chatti village, 7-8 people got out of a car that came from the front and carried out the massacre by firing bullets.

Many people including Munna Bajrangi, Mukhtar Ansari and Sanjeev Jeeva were accused of the murder. Munna Bajrangi was murdered in Baghpat Jail. Mukhtar and Sanjeev Jeeva were acquitted in this case.

Sanjeev Jeeva was accused of running a gang from jail. According to reports, in 2013, Jeeva was shifted to the special barrack of the hospital in Barabanki Jail, where he used to hold his court. Everyday 25 to 30 people used to come to meet him. The arrangement was VVIP. He used all the facilities including TV, fridge, mobile, laptop. It is said that the jail officials did not know about Jeeva’s illness.

Krishnanand Rai’s son Piyush Rai has reacted to ABP News on the murder of Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva. Piyush Rai said, “(Jiva) was a dreaded criminal. The CBI had made him an accused. He was acquitted in the murder of our father but he was imprisoned for life in the murder of Brahmadatta. It had ruined the houses of many people and it also has enemies. Obviously, the end of such people is like this only. It is said that in 2021, Jeeva’s wife Payal requested the Chief Justice of India to save her husband.
