Is the US on the way to form a new quad? Why this step was taken before PM Modi’s US tour

US Creating QUAD 2.O: India is a very important member of the Quad group. America, Japan, Australia are also part of this group. This group was formed in the year 2017 to reduce the increasing dominance of the dragon in the South-China Sea. Perhaps, now America is seen moving towards forming a new quad group.

The biggest evidence of this was seen in the recent Shangri-La Dialogues held in Singapore, when US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin met politicians from Australia, Japan and the Philippines. The information related to this was posted by the US Defense Minister on his Twitter handle.

The US Secretary of Defense posted a picture on Twitter, in which he was seen standing with Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Australia Richard Marles and Defense Minister of the Philippines Carlito Galvez. Apart from this, he wrote that we met to discuss the issue of South China Sea, which is a matter of honor for me.

Challenge to reduce China’s dominance
It is believed that regarding this new step of America, all these preparations are being done to create another strong organization in front of China. America’s Defense Minister had already talked about this meeting with President Joe Biden, after which he participated in the meeting on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogues meeting.

America has always wanted to reduce the stranglehold of the rising dragon on the South China Sea and they believe that the Philippines can also prove to be an important part of this process. However, Derek J. Grossman, an expert on Indo-Pacific affairs, says that India need not fear the new grouping of the Quad. This new group will not harm India’s position in the old Quad group.

PM Modi met in Japan
Last month, in the last week of May, the quad group meeting was going to be held in Australia. However, US President Joe Biden canceled the visit due to the conditions in the country, due to which the meeting was not possible.

Despite this, the Prime Minister of India met the heads of the Quad countries by separately attending the meeting of the G7 countries in Hiroshima, Japan, in which he met US President Biden, PM Albanese of Australia and PM Fumio Kishida of Japan. On the other hand, PM Modi is also going to visit America in June this month.
