Jyotiraditya Scindia claims, air fares fell by up to 60% in 2 days


Airfare Update: The central government has claimed that there has been a huge drop in air fares in the last two days. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Sidhiya said that two days ago he had held a meeting with the airlines regarding air fares, after which the airfares have come down by 60 per cent.

The Civil Aviation Minister said that the airfare for booking tickets for the Delhi-Srinagar route on June 5 to June 6 was Rs 11,913 to Rs 18,592. But on booking tickets on June 6 to travel on June 7, the fare has come down from Rs 10,626 to Rs 16,506. He told that earlier the fare of Delhi-Leh used to be Rs 8658 to Rs 26,644, which has come down to Rs 9707 to Rs 16,034. He told that there has been a reduction in fares for Delhi-Pune, Delhi-Ahmedabad routes.

In fact, on June 5, the Civil Aviation Minister, in a meeting with the Airlines Advisory Group, had expressed concern about the high air fares. He said that keeping air fare affordable is the biggest objective. Giving information about the achievements of the government in the civil aviation sector on the completion of nine years of the Modi government, he said that during the tragic train accident in Odisha, airlines have been asked to provide free cargo services to the families of the victims.

Jyotiraditya Sidhiya said that in the next five years there will be a total of 200 airports, heliports and water aerodromes in India. He told that domestic airlines will place orders for 1400 additional aircraft during this period. He said that where there were 74 airports in 2014, their number has now increased to 148. There were 6 crore domestic air passengers in 2013-14, whose number has now increased to 14.5 crore. That is, there has been a jump of 135 percent in the number of domestic air passengers during this period. He told that the number of international air passengers has increased by 50 percent during this period and their number has increased from 47 million to 70 million.
