Modi government’s big gift to the farmers, announced a huge increase in the MSP of Arhar Urad including Paddy

Cabinet Decisions: In view of the increasing prices of pulses, the Modi government has increased the MSP i.e. minimum support price of Arhar, Moong and Urad Dal for the purpose of increasing the production in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi In the cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, the increase in the MSP of Kharif crops for the 2023-24 marketing season was approved. In which the MSP of Arhar Dal has been increased by Rs 400 to Rs 7000 per quintal. The MSP of Urad Dal has also been increased by Rs 350 to Rs 6950 per quintal. The MSP of moong has been increased by 10.4 per cent from Rs 7755 to Rs 8558 per quintal.

More pulses will be sown!

Farmers will be greatly benefited by this decision of the government, who will be motivated to sow more pulses and will get higher price for the produce. From traders to millers, the government had demanded an increase in the MSP of Arhar dal so that more production of Arhar dal could be done in the country. In the last few months, there has been an increase of more than 10 percent in the prices of Arhar Dal. At present, the MSP of Arhar Dal is less than the SSP of Moong Dal at Rs 7755 per quintal. To meet the consumption of Arhar dal in the country, the government has imported additional quantity of Arhar dal for the 2023-24 marketing season to check rising prices in the domestic market.

MSP of paddy also increased

The cabinet has increased the MSP of other Kharif crops like paddy (common) from Rs 2040 to Rs 2183 per quintal for the 2023-24 marketing season. The MSP of Grade A paddy has been increased from Rs 2060 to Rs 2203 per quintal. The MSP of maize has been increased from Rs 1962 per quintal to Rs 2090 per quintal.

Government’s eye on rising prices of pulses

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, the government had made a big announcement to promote the production of pulses in the country. Under the Price Support Scheme, the government has abolished the 40 percent limit for buying Arhar, Urad and Masoor pulses for the year 2023-24. Now farmers can sell pulses as much as they want to the government under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). After this decision of the government, it is expected that the sowing of these pulses will increase in this Kharif season and the coming Rabi season. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has issued instructions in this direction to increase the production of pulses. With this, farmers will be assured that their produce will be bought without any limit at MSP i.e. Minimum Support Price (MSP). After this assurance of the government to purchase pulses on MSP, farmers will be motivated to sow arhar, urad and moong dal in more area in Kharif Rabi season.

Recommendation to increase MSP

In fact, the CACP (Commission of Agriculture Costs and Prices) had recommended to the government to increase the MSP of paddy, ragi, maize, arhar, moong and urad by 3 to 8 percent in this Kharif marketing season.
