Meteorological Department Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday (June 10) that ‘Biparjoy’ could turn into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours. But the department said that it is not expected to hit the Gujarat coast and the cyclone is expected to pass a distance of 200-300 kilometers from the Porbandar coast.

The Meteorological Department said, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds in Gujarat during the next five days. In its new forecast, the IMD said that very severe cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ is very likely to intensify into an extremely severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours.

Cyclone storm 600 km away from Porbandar
It is likely to move slowly north-northeastwards during the next three days before moving north-northwestwards, an official said. Manorama Mohanty, director of the Ahmedabad (India Meteorological Department) centre, said, “The cyclonic storm is currently 600 km from Porbandar. As it moves further, the port signal warnings will change accordingly. At present the cyclone is 200-200 km from Porbandar. It is estimated to pass at a distance of 300 km and Nalia (Kutch) at a distance of 200 km. As far as the current forecast is concerned, it is not expected to hit the Gujarat coast.”

Fishermen warned not to venture into the Arabian Sea
He told the media that fishermen have been warned not to venture into the Arabian Sea during the next five days and all fishing activities have been suspended. Mohanty said, “The cyclone is moving in the north direction. Its speed is expected to change to northeast in the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the movement of the cyclone will be towards north-northwest.”
