Pakistan-China Relation: The number of donkeys in Pakistan is increasing rapidly. Recently, the Pakistan Economic Survey has revealed that there has been an increase of 1 lakh in the number of donkeys within the last 1 year. After this, the number of donkeys has increased from 57 lakhs to 58 lakhs.
However, China is being told the main reason behind the increasing population of donkeys, because earlier China had asked Pakistan to supply donkeys. There is a great demand for donkeys in China, due to which China has asked Pakistan on many occasions to increase the supply of donkeys.
Gelatin is extracted from the skin of donkeys
According to the report of Pakistani newspaper The Dawn, China is continuously importing dogs and donkeys from other countries. Due to the increasing demand in China, the country’s government is asking for animals. China gets gelatin from the skin of donkeys, which is used to make traditional Chinese medicine. For this donkeys are killed and then their skin is boiled. According to a Guardian report in 2019, gelatin helps strengthen the immune system.
Government of Pakistan took 3,000 acres of land
Geo News reported that there was a briefing on imports and exports in 2022 between the officials of Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce and the Standing Committee of the Senate. During this briefing, a member of the ministry, Dinesh Kumar had informed that China has shown interest in importing donkeys and dogs from Pakistan. For this, the country’s government took more than 3,000 acres of land in Okara district of Punjab province and donkeys were reared there.
