WTC Final 2023, India vs Australia: Controversy has erupted over the decision of the third umpire in the World Test Championship (WTC) final match being played between India and Australia. The Australian team declared its second innings on the score of 270 runs in the fourth day’s play and gave India a target of 444 runs. After this, Team India’s opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who came out to bat, started the process of scoring runs in a positive manner. Meanwhile, Twitter users are accusing the third umpire of cheating on Gill’s wicket.
When the Indian team’s score reached 41 runs, a ball from Scott Boland hit the outer edge of Gill’s bat and Cameron Green, standing in the slip, caught the catch. But during this time the on-field umpire doubted the catch and decided to go towards the third umpire.
When Richard Kettleberg, who was playing the role of the third umpire in this match, saw the replays, he called Gill out. Now many former players along with the fans have started raising questions regarding this decision. Actually, on seeing the replays, the ball was hitting the ground. Captain Rohit Sharma was also very angry about this decision of the third umpire and he also talked to the on-field umpire about it at that time.

It was a great effort from Cameron Green but it is the moment immediately after the catch is taken, when the hand turns, that must have caused Shubman Gill to be very disappointed.

The problem with reviews and with enhance cameras is you’re always going to see some part of the ball on the grass even though the player feels they have it under control. Not easy for the umpire #AUSvIND

Third umpire while making that decision of Shubman Gill.
Inconclusive evidence. When in doubt, it’s not out #WTC23Final pic.twitter.com/t567cvGjub
