Odisha CM Intercontinental Cup 2023: The football tournament Intercontinental Cup 2023 started on Friday, June 9. At the same time, the last match of the tournament will be played on 18 June. All the matches of the tournament will be played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar in Odisha. The Indian National Football team is playing in Odisha for the first time. On the special occasion of the start of the Intercontinental Cup 2023, state CM Naveen Patnaik met the teams of India and Mongolia during the line-up and extended his best wishes.
All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Choubey and General Secretary Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, CM Naveen Patnaik said, “I am happy to see that Odisha once again welcomes a big football event at the famous Kalinga Stadium. This is an example of Odisha’s dedication to establish itself as a major football hub in India.”
The CM said, “I am sure the participating international teams will have a great experience competing at this venue. Football lovers of Odisha will get an opportunity to witness an extraordinary display of the game.” He further said that Odisha footballers get an opportunity to see their idols and learn from them.
Odisha CM assured All India Football Federation President Kalyan Choubey of full support for the development of football. Kalyan Choubey thanked the Chief Minister for hosting the championship and appreciated the role of the state government in the development of football in the state.
Women’s Under-17 FIF World Cup was played in Odisha in 2022
Odisha has been investing in the development of football for the last few years. The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was to be held in October 2022. Kalinga Stadium has hosted many national level tournaments and leagues like ISL, IWL, Super Cup etc.
