Biparjoy had turned into a severe cyclonic storm on Sunday. It is fast moving towards the coast of India. Although it was estimated to reach by June 15, its effect has already started showing. Flight operations have been disrupted due to strong winds in Mumbai.

The Indian Meteorological Department has declared Orange Alert, changing the status of warning in Kutch and Saurashtra region of Gujarat. Earlier a yellow alert was declared here. Biparjoy is likely to pass between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) by the afternoon of June 15.

Amid cyclone warnings, people are being evacuated from low-lying coastal areas in Gujarat’s Kutch to temporary shelters. News agency ANI quoted a Deendayal Port Authority official as saying that six ships left the port on Sunday (June 11) and 11 more would depart on Monday. Port officials and ship owners have also been asked to be vigilant.
