Is the data leaked from the CoWIN portal? Government clarified on the claim of opposition leaders


CoinWIN: A report by Malayala Manorama has claimed that personal information like Aadhaar, passport and PAN card numbers of crores of Indian people as well as big politicians and journalists have been leaked from the government portal COWIN. Since then, the opposition parties are also targeting the government regarding this.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Saket Gokhale has made a serious allegation of breach of confidentiality with the help of the Kovid-19 vaccination app CoWIN on the Modi government. At the same time, now government sources have denied the claims and said that the Union Health Ministry is working on a detailed report. He said that it is still being investigated.

What are the allegations?

According to the report, the personal information, Aadhaar card and passport details of Indian citizens were leaked on the messaging platform Telegram. According to a report by Malayala Manorama, the data leak has happened from Kovid vaccination portal Covin, in which people had entered their personal details.

At the same time, government sources said that the portal only keeps information on the date when the person was vaccinated. Covin portal does not collect date of birth and home address. The Cowin portal only stores information about users whether they have taken the first dose, second dose or precausion dose or not.

Reports by Malayala Manorama claimed that personal details of citizens uploaded on the CoWIN portal after vaccination were available and easily accessible on the Telegram app for some time. Saket Gokhale also named some journalists and said that their personal information is also available online.
