China Population: A historic decline has been recorded in marriages in China amid declining birth rate and falling population. According to data released by China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs, in the year 2022, only 6.83 crore couples in China registered their marriages. Which is 10.5% less than 2021. According to the report, there has been a decline of about eight lakh marriages in 2022 as compared to 2021.
According to a CNN report, last year, 6.77 children were born in China for every 1,000 people, which is the lowest recorded birth rate ever. In 2021, this birth rate was 7.52. Meanwhile, China’s death rate, the highest since 1974, was 7.37 deaths per 1,000 people.
Population decreased for the first time in 60 years
According to the report, the country’s population is also set to decline in 2022 for the first time in more than 60 years. India has now become the most populous country in the world leaving behind China. However, the decline in the number of young people is partly a result of China’s one-child policy, which ran from 1980 to 2016. According to the report, both the government and economists are worried about the impact of China’s falling population on the country’s economy. In such a situation, major changes are being made in the policies to deal with this problem.
Falling birth rate has become a matter of concern
Significantly, to promote the declining birth rate, China launched a pilot project last month to create a ‘new era’ marriage and child-bearing culture in more than 20 of its cities. Not only this, in view of the falling birth rate, China allowed the couple to have up to three children last year.
