‘Safe evacuation of people from sensitive areas’, what did PM Modi say amid Biparjoy threats


Biparjoy Cyclonic Storm: The threat of cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ is looming over India for the next few days. In view of this the Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Monday (June 12) to review the preparations on ‘Biparjoy’. To deal with all the situations arising out of this, he inquired about the preparedness of the ministries/agencies of the Center and Gujarat.

PM directs senior officials to take all possible measures to ensure that people living in sensitive places are safely evacuated by the state government and all essential services like electricity, telecom, health, drinking water etc. are maintained to be ensured. He also directed that the safety of animals should also be ensured. He also directed to make the control rooms work 24*7.

What happened in the meeting?

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Shanghvi told that PM Modi spoke to all the officials on the preparations as the cyclonic storm is expected to cross the Gujarat coast on June 15. During the meeting, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ is likely to make a very severe landfall over Saurashtra and Kutch near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) by the afternoon of 15th June. It is expected to cross as a cyclonic storm.

NDRF teams deployed

It was also informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is reviewing the situation moment by moment and is in touch with the state government and the concerned central agencies. NDRF has already deployed 12 teams, which are equipped with boats, tree cutters, telecom equipment etc. and kept 15 teams on standby. Indian Coast Guard and Navy have deployed ships and helicopters for relief, search and rescue operations.
